Sec. 8-1.8. Posting of signs

- (a) All elevator cars shall have a sign posted conspicuously, which shall show the maximum rated load that can be carried on the elevator.(b) All freight elevator cars shall have a sign posted conspicuously, reading as follows: “PASSENGERS NOT PERMITTED”.(c) All signs, except capacity signs, shall consist of letters not less than one inch in height.(d) Manually operated doors or gates of freight elevator hoistways, except those provided with interlocks, electric contacts or other approved devices performing similar functions, shall be provided with a sign posted conspicuously on the landing side of the doors or gates—“ELEVATOR—KEEP THIS SHUT”.
