- Every direct connected electric elevator hereafter installed shall have mounted in the car adjacent to the controller an emergency switch, the function of which shall be to cut off the power, apply the brake and bring the car to rest, independent of the car operating device.Exception:Sidewalk elevators and trap door freight elevators.
