Sec. 27.3. Registration procedures

- (a) On and after October 1, 1985, no registration or renewal of a registration for a heavy vehicle shall be issued unless proof of payment of, or exemption from, the heavy vehicle use tax is submitted to the commissioner in conjunction with the application for registration or renewal of registration.(b) Such proof shall not be required if the application for registration is presented within 60 days of the acquisition of the heavy vehicle being registered.(c) Notwithstanding the provisions of subdivision (a) of this section, an issuing office may manually extend expiring registrations for a period not to exceed 90 days to allow registrants time to provide the proof required by such subdivision.(d) With respect to an agricultural vehicle or a truck used in logging, upon the submission of a properly completed declaration of exempt status (Form MV-3HV), with an application for registration or renewal of registration, the registration for such vehicle will be a registration as an agricultural vehicle or a truck used in logging, whichever is appropriate.
