Sec. 46.11. Handicapped symbol

  • Every school bus which is equipped with a lift to facilitate the transportation of children with disabilities shall display a universal handicapped symbol which is an illustration of a person seated in a wheelchair. The symbol shall be:
    (a) white against a blue background;
    (b) a square not less than four nor more than six inches on each side; and
    (c) mounted as close as practicable to the vertical centerline of the rear of the bus and three to six feet above the ground, but not on glass needed for visibility.
    The symbol may be a decal or a sign or may be painted on the bus.
    (d) On or after November 22, 2014, any new signage relating to accessibility that is installed or replaced on a school bus, which is equipped with a lift to facilitate the transportation of children with disabilities shall display the logo designated by the Secretary of State pursuant to section 101 of the Executive Law.
