- Tax Law, § 501, subd. 4The maximum gross weight of a truck is the unloaded weight of the truck plus the maximum load to be carried by it on New York public highways, exclusive of the weight of the driver and his helper.Example:If the unloaded weight of a truck is 5,500 pounds, and the maximum load to be carried by it in New York is 14,000 pounds, its maximum gross weight is 19,500 pounds.
