Scientific Merit Peer Review Services

The purpose of this Request for Proposals is to invite applications from organizations experienced in conducting and providing scientific merit peer review services. A maximum of one (1) project will be funded.

ELIGIBLE RECIPIENTS: The applicant must be a fiscally and legally responsible entity with demonstrated expertise, including a minimum of five years' experience in peer review of research and education applications. Proposals from unincorporated individuals will not be accepted. Although the entity and its staff may or may not be located in New York State, to avoid any potential conflict of interest, all reviewers must reside outside of the State.

NEW YORK STATE NOT-FOR-PROFIT ORGANIZATION DEMONSTRATING THE CAPABILITY TO CONDUCT GRANT FUNDED RESEARCH ON BEHALF OF A NEW YORK STATE-BASED PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR AND RESEARCH TEAM

Spinal Cord Injury Research Program

APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED THROUGH: 01/02/08. The estimated contract start date is 10/1/08. Applications must be submitted by New York State not-for-profit organizations, with demonstrated capability to conduct grant funded research, on behalf of a New York State-based principal investigator and research team. The SCIRP welcomes basic, clinical and translational neurological research applications in SCI. Investigators are invited to submit applications for:

(1) Collaborations to Achieve Research Translation (CART) Award These four-year awards foster the translation of results from preclinical research into the next research phase. Annual direct costs capped at $300,000.

(2) Innovative, Developmental or Exploratory Activities (IDEA) Award These two-year awards provide initial support for preliminary testing of novel or high-risk hypotheses related to SCI. Annual direct costs capped at $150,000.

(3) Postdoctoral Fellowship Award These two-year awards support continued training of investigators with exceptional potential for making significant contributions to the cures of SCI. Each fellow's stipend is based on experience. Annual direct costs, above the stipend, capped at $20,000.

(4 & 5) Mentored Research or Clinical Scientist Development Awards These three-year awards underwrite the transition of neuroscientists or clinicians into SCI research careers. Annual direct costs capped at $200,000.

Safe Patient Handling Demonstration Grant Program

Application due date is February 1, 2008. $500,000 is available for six two-year awards (capped at $83,333 for the entire project period) to eligible nursing homes, home care agencies and hospitals to establish or improve safe patient handling programs. The release of the RFA will be announced on the Health Provider Network (HPN) on or about October 31, 2007.

The New York City Regional Office of the State Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities announces the availability of funding to provide family support services to families that care at home for a family member with a disability. Most families caring for a family member with a developmental disability desire to raise their children in a family setting. However, these families may experience exceptionally high financial outlays and physical and emotional challenges for the complex task of supporting the needs of their children. The goal of the OMRDD Family Support Services Program is to assist families to remain intact for as long as they desire and to avoid unnecessary out of home placement. A priority is also to address the needs of those who remain unserved and underserved. Small and emerging agencies that provide services to the underserved and the unserved are encouraged to submit proposals. Any proposed service must foster independence, integration, individualization and productivity within the community for each person.

* Important: This RFP requires that at least 25% of each borough's total funding allocation be directed toward accessing family supports either by creating new programs or by enhancing existing programs in the areas of crisis intervention and behavior management and for serving individuals (consumers) with challenging behaviors. Providers applying for RFP funds must define the criteria that they will utilize to enroll consumers in these programs and ensure documentation of who has been served by these funds.
